You arrive
Ten minutes early, in gym kit, with a bottle of water. Someone will meet you at the door, take your name and introduce you to whoever is teaching. Shoes off at the edge of the mat.
Tell us which night suits you and we will do the rest. One of the instructors messages you back to confirm — that is the whole process.
"Since there was a free trial I decided to give it a go. As a complete beginner, I never felt out of place or that I don't know enough."

Nobody is going to throw you across the room. Here is what actually happens, in order.
Ten minutes early, in gym kit, with a bottle of water. Someone will meet you at the door, take your name and introduce you to whoever is teaching. Shoes off at the edge of the mat.
Ten minutes of movement to get you loose. It's a warm-up, not a fitness test — work at whatever pace you're comfortable with and nobody will say a word.
Before you learn to throw anyone, you learn to land. Breakfalling is the first skill every Jujutsu student is taught and the one that makes everything afterwards safe.
Two or three techniques from the white-belt syllabus, drilled slowly with a partner who knows you're new. On Tuesdays at 6pm that's the whole class; on other nights you'll be in with the rest of the class working beginner techniques.
Slightly sweaty, probably having laughed at least once, and knowing more than you did an hour earlier. Nobody will chase you for a decision.
You get the striking, the throws, the ground and the practical self-defence together. Sensei Ross founder of TJK is an 8th Dan in Jujutsu, 2nd in Dan Judo, 1st Dan in Karate and was one of the first in the UK to be taught Gracie Jiu-Jitsu directly by Master Carley Gracie.
Reality-based scenarios, restraints, personal protection and weapon and knife defence. The core of the TJK syllabus, used by police and armed forces around the world. More →
Jujutsu and Judo throws, trips and takedowns, and how to fall safely, which you'll learn in your very first hour.
Effective, powerful striking taught with control. Pads and partner drills first, rounds only when you want them.
Applied submission grappling groundwork. Control, escapes and submissions that work when you're not on a competition mat.
Kumite, submission grappling and grapple & strike. Compete if you want to, plenty of our members never do. More →
Japanese lineage, a structured grading syllabus, and the discipline and respect that come with it. More →
