Terms & Conditions
Last updated 10 September 2026.
These are the terms you agree to when you book a class with TJK Tewkesbury. In short: you must be 18 or over, you must be well enough to train and tell us about anything that affects your safety, you pay when you book, recurring plans continue until you cancel them yourself, and you follow your instructor’s directions on the mat. The detail is below.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by TJK Tewkesbury (“we”, “us”, “our”), a martial arts club teaching adult Japanese Jujutsu, self-defence and sport jujutsu, and part of the Taijutsu Kai association.
- Correspondence address: 18 Fern Drive, Malvern, WR14 1BN
- Email: info@tjktewkesbury.co.uk
- Training venue: Wheatpieces Community Centre, Tewkesbury, GL20 7SP
2. These terms
These terms apply when you book or pay for a class through this website and when you train with us. By completing a booking you confirm you have read them and agree to them. We recommend you save or print a copy.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
3. Who can train
TJK Tewkesbury is an adults-only club. You must be at least 18 to book and to train with us. We do not teach children.
You do not need any previous experience. Our beginners sessions are designed for people starting from nothing.
4. Classes, times and places
Current class times are on our class times page. Sessions run on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings at the venue above.
Timetables, instructors and session content can change. We will publish changes on the website and tell members where we reasonably can, but please check before travelling. Booking a class does not reserve a particular instructor.
Space is limited in some sessions. If a session is full we will tell you and offer an alternative.
5. Booking and payment
Bookings are made through this website. Prices are shown in pounds sterling and are the amount you will be charged.
Payment is taken when you book, by card through Stripe or through PayPal. We never see or store your full card details. Your booking is confirmed when you receive our confirmation email; if we cannot accept it, we will tell you and refund anything taken.
If a price is obviously wrong we may cancel the booking and refund you rather than honour the error, and we will contact you first.
6. Free trial and introductory offers
Our free trial class and introductory offers are for people who have not trained with us before, and are limited to one per person unless we say otherwise. We may decline or cancel a booking that does not meet those conditions.
7. Recurring payments
Several options are recurring plans, billed automatically each week or each month depending on which you choose. Where you pick one of these:
- Payments continue automatically until you cancel. There is no minimum term and no contract to see out.
- You can cancel at any time in the My account area, or by emailing us. Please cancel before your next payment date.
- Cancelling stops future payments. It does not refund the payment already taken for the current period, and you can keep training for the period you have paid for.
- If a payment fails we may retry it and may suspend your place until it is up to date.
We will tell you in advance if we change the price of a recurring plan, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
8. Your right to cancel and change your mind
Because you are buying online, you normally have 14 days from purchase to change your mind and get a refund, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
If you ask us to start the service inside that period — which includes attending a class — you can still cancel, but we may keep an amount proportionate to what you have already used. If you have used everything you bought, no refund is due.
To cancel, email info@tjktewkesbury.co.uk. Refunds go back to the original payment method, normally within 14 days of us agreeing them.
After the 14-day period we do not normally refund classes booked but not attended. If something has gone wrong, please talk to us — we would rather sort it out.
9. If we change or cancel a session
We may cancel or move a session, for example if the venue is unavailable, an instructor is ill, or the weather makes travel unsafe. If we cancel a session you have paid for, we will offer you an alternative session or refund that session.
Neither of us is responsible for failing to meet these terms because of something genuinely outside our control. If that situation continues for a long period, either of us may cancel and we will refund what you have paid for anything not delivered.
10. Health, fitness and the risks of training
Jujutsu is a physical contact activity involving throws, groundwork and striking practice. Injury is a risk inherent in training, and you take part voluntarily.
You must be in good enough health to take part. Before training you must tell your instructor about any injury, medical condition, medication or pregnancy that could affect your safety or your training partners’ safety, and you should speak to your GP first if you are in any doubt. Tell us about anything that changes.
Stop and tell your instructor immediately if you feel unwell or are hurt during a session. Nothing on this website is medical advice.
11. Conduct on the mat
Martial arts training depends on trust between partners. While training with us you agree to:
- follow your instructor’s directions at all times;
- train with control, and with respect for your partners’ safety and limits;
- arrive clean, with short nails and no jewellery, and wear suitable kit;
- never train under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
- treat other members, instructors, the venue and its neighbours with respect;
- use what you learn responsibly, and only ever in lawful self-defence.
We may refuse entry to, or remove, anyone whose behaviour puts others at risk or is otherwise unacceptable. Where we do so because of your conduct, no refund is due.
12. Membership, licensing and insurance
Association membership, a licence or insurance may be required to keep training with us beyond introductory sessions. Where it is, we will tell you what is needed, what it costs and when it is due before you have to pay for it. Keeping it current is your responsibility, and we may ask you not to train if it has lapsed.
13. Your belongings
Please leave valuables at home. We are not responsible for loss of or damage to personal property brought to the venue, except where it is caused by our negligence.
14. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
Subject to that, we are not liable for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, or for business losses such as lost profit or lost opportunity. Our total liability in connection with any booking will not exceed the amount you paid for it.
15. Photography and video
We sometimes take photographs or video in class for our website and social media. If you would rather not appear, tell your instructor and we will respect that — you do not need to give a reason.
16. Your information
We use your details to take bookings, manage your membership and contact you about classes. How we use cookies on this website is set out in our Cookie Policy.
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing info@tjktewkesbury.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
17. Complaints
If you are unhappy with anything, please tell us. Speak to your instructor or email info@tjktewkesbury.co.uk and we will do our best to put it right.
18. Transferring these terms
Your booking is personal to you and cannot be transferred or sold to someone else without our agreement. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation, and will tell you if we do.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published here when you make a booking is the version that applies to that booking.
20. Law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own country’s courts.
